LeaDev-Langham is an umbrella for the cooperating ministries in and from New Zealand of organisations affiliated to global networks: Leadership Development International, Langham Partnership New Zealand and Humanitarian Development International.
Leadership Development International is affiliated to the Overseas Council Network which supports about 120 strategic Bible believing, academically accredited, interdenominational, Bible colleges and seminaries throughout the Majority World. These colleges have a total student body in any given year of more than 50,000 and are training leaders from more than 60 countries.
Overseas Council (OC) began in 1974, as the vision of Charles Spicer, from the USA. OC focussed exclusively on supporting Seoul Theological Seminary (STS) until 1980. STS more than doubled in size during those years becoming the third largest seminary in the non-western world. In 1980 OC began taking on the needs of other seminaries in India, Brazil and Indonesia. In 1984 OC began expanding assistance to include strategic schools in all regions of the Majority World.
In 1989 the OC affiliate network, Overseas Council NZ (OCNZ), was formed as an autonomous affiliate with the establishment of a board of business people who had given generously; and encouraged their business colleagues to join with them. The growth of OCNZ took a step forward with the appointment of Tony Plews as Executive Director in 1996. Then in 2006 it officially changed its name to Leadership Development International.
Langham Partnership New Zealand is a national member of Langham Partnership International founded by Rev John Stott in 1974 and currently led by International Ministries Director Rev Chris Wright. Langham Partnership has three international ministries: Langham Literature, Langham Preaching and Langham Scholars. Langham Partnership New Zealand upholds these ministries within its own structure; and we are especially privileged to support Paul Windsor, a former Principal of Carey Baptist College, in his role with Langham Preaching, responsible for Asia Pacific. For more information on Langham’s history, go to www.langhampartnership.org/about-us/history/. Also visit kiwimadepreaching/wordpress.com, an initiative of Langham Partnership New Zealand.
The Overseas Council Network and Langham Partnership International between them have affiliated organisations and/or national members in Australia, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, UK and the USA.
Humanitarian Development International was formed in 2009 due to an overwhelming response from donors wanting to support the relief work after Cyclone Nargis and the Haitian Earthquake. Humanitarian Development International is dedicated to supporting disaster relief or development areas through trusted partners to people in dire need, regardless of race, ethnicity, tribe or religion, especially aiming to alleviate the suffering and to help empower the future of women and children.
