The goal of Preaching Training, which is a ministry of Langham Preaching, is a bold one: to change the culture of preaching in the countries of the majority world. We desire to do this in partnership with others, under God's gracious hand and with a commitment to indigenous leadership.
This change is effected through two processes. The first one is the development of a movement of biblical preaching at the grassroots. This happens through a series of weeklong training seminars with carefully selected participants, active as preachers, from across the breadth of church life. They meet once a year for three years and then those who demonstrate a capacity to be effective trainers of others meet annually for a further three years for additional training. In between these seminars participants commit to meeting regularly in small groups - known as 'clubs', or 'fellowships' - where the principles of biblical preaching are practised and encouraged as people hold each other accountable and begin to spread the training on to others.
The second process is a more recent addition. It has become clear that a grassroots movement on its own will not see a change in the culture of preaching. The theological colleges and seminaries in a country also need to see a transformation in the way homiletics is taught in their curriculum. And so through a series of regional consultations for teachers of homiletics it is envisaged that change will come to the classroom and the community in which preaching is learned.
With the grassroots and the classroom aligned in this commitment to see preaching improve, we believe that change is possible.
